Vatican City and singing at the Main Altar of St. Peter’s Basilica

Hello there!   Long time no see!   It’s been very difficult for me to post on the blog because I haven’t had any wifi.   But here I am!   Right now, we are on a three and a half hour bus ride to Venice.   Even though we’re almost done with the trip, I want to fill you in on all of the amazing adventures that we’ve had on this trip. Vatican City and singing at the Main Altar of St. Peter’s Basilica Today was amazing.   It’s difficult to express in words how we all feel after our performance today, but I’ll try my best to help you understand. We woke up very early to start our day.   Today in Rome is a giant tourism bus strike and our dear driver, Antonio, couldn’t drive us today.   The drivers are protesting their excessive taxes that they have to pay to drive inside of the city (600 euros per day!!!) Anyway, the first adventure of the day was riding the Roman subway system.   We walked about a mile to the nearest su...

The Coliseum, The Forum, and Sleepy Kiddos

We're here! And it's been a long day.  Actually a long two days! I'm posting this a day late because I'm just getting a chance to connect to wifi and post this! We landed in Rome at 8:00 am on Tuesday morning after a long and sleepless night on the plane.  We had a busy day planned and we were on our feet all day.  We boarded our bus and met our guides: Flavio and Ilaria (sorry if I spelled it wrong!). They are amazing and we LOVE them! Funny, kind, outgoing, and knowledgeable.  Perfect! Oh, and they're music lovers. :) We arrived at the Coliseum and had about 2 hours of free time to explore the area around the Coliseum and Forum.  I'm known for taking my tour group out of their comfort zones and finding cool places off the beaten path.  We found a delicious little butcher shop with a super cute man who was hand making paninis!  It was underneath his apartment and across from an aqueduct fountain built by the ancient Romans! The water is super cold ...

At the Airport

Image
The airport.  As the daughter of a Delta pilot, it feels like home to me.  For other members of the choir, it feels strange and unfamiliar.  The world's largest airport, at any time is larger than some cities.  It can be daunting, but not as much when we're walking through the terminal and see many familiar Spivey faces. We are all checked in and at the gate.  We are buzzing with excitement! For one choir member, it's her 5th flight. "I'm not scared", she remarks.  "I'm most looking forward to sleeping on the flight." For another, it's his very first flight. "The airport is so big. It's basically like a mall!"  He's not scared, though.  "I'm bummed I don't have a window seat." For another choir member, it's his 5th flight, too.  "I'm going from Rome, GA to Rome, Italy so that's pretty cool!"  "I think my favorite part of Italy will be the Library de Assisi and the other smal...

Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to the travel blog of the Spivey Hall Tour Choir.  We're so glad you're joining us on our adventures.  So that we can get to know each other, here's a little bit about us. The Spivey Hall Tour Choir This 50 member select ensemble is a part of the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir. Auditioning for this group requires spending at least one year in the Children’s Choir and having a higher level of mastery in the areas of sight reading, music theory, and vocal technique. Tour Choir demands an increased time and financial commitment due to a more extensive rehearsal and performance schedule that includes an annual summer tour. This ensemble performs six concerts in Spivey Hall with the Children’s Choir as well as locally and regionally. The schedule varies annually. As cultural ambassadors of the state of Georgia, Clayton State University and Spivey Hall the Tour Choir has performed to acclaim throughout the United States on tour and at national and regional music...
