At the Airport
The airport. As the daughter of a Delta pilot, it feels like home to me. For other members of the choir, it feels strange and unfamiliar. The world's largest airport, at any time is larger than some cities. It can be daunting, but not as much when we're walking through the terminal and see many familiar Spivey faces. We are all checked in and at the gate. We are buzzing with excitement!
For one choir member, it's her 5th flight. "I'm not scared", she remarks. "I'm most looking forward to sleeping on the flight."
For another, it's his very first flight. "The airport is so big. It's basically like a mall!" He's not scared, though. "I'm bummed I don't have a window seat."
For another choir member, it's his 5th flight, too. "I'm going from Rome, GA to Rome, Italy so that's pretty cool!" "I think my favorite part of Italy will be the Library de Assisi and the other smaller parts of the country".
For me, I can't count the number of flights I've been on, and I can tell you nearly every restaurant in every terminal of the airport. Even so, there's a new feeling of excitement being here with these amazing people. Also, I'm excited because I have a window seat!
Our Delta Boing 767-400ER has 246 seats. Its cruising speed is 546 miles per hour. Its range is 6,336 miles (that more than covers our 5,021 mile flight). It has 2 turbofan engines and it is 201 feet and 4 inches long!
A few minutes ago, they made an announcement over the loud speaker. "Attention Delta passengers, our flight to Rome is completely oversold and we are looking for 5 volunteers to get on the next flight in 3 hours. These volunteers will receive a $1,000 gift card of your choice and an upgrade of your seat." I saw Mrs. Abarr start towards the gate agent and I had to hold her back! ;)
Our flight to Rome leaves in one hour!!!
